Re: fractions with coefficients

(3x - 1)/4 + x/2 = 3/8
8[(3x - 1)/4 + x/2 = 3/8] {multiplied entire equation by the least common denominator, 8}
8[(3x - 1)/4] + 8(x/2) = 8(3/8) {multiplied each term by 8}
2(3x - 1) + 4x = 3 {cancelled and multiplied what's left}
6x - 2 + 4x = 3 {used distributive property}
10x - 2 = 3 {combined like terms}
10x = 5 {added 2 to both sides}
x = 1/2 {divided both sides by 10}
