$15,074 is invested, part at 14% and the rest at 5%. If the interest earned from the amount invested at 14% exceeds the interest earned from the amount invested at 5% by $1694.07 how much is invested at each rate? (Round to two decimal places if necessary.)

Re: percent

x = amount at 14%
y = amount at 5%

x + y = 15,074
.14x = .05y + 1694.07

x = -y + 15,074   subtracted y from each side in top equation

.14(-y + 15,074) = .05y + 1694.07   substituted
-.14y + 2110.36 = .05y + 1694.07   distributed
416.29 = .19y   isolated variable
y = 2191   divided

x = -y + 15,047
= -2191 + 15,047   substituted
x = 12,856

$12,856 at 14%
$2191 at 5%
